influx.mp3db - MP3 Database

What is it?

influx.mp3db came from people constantly asking me what kind of music I listen to, if I had x album yet, what I thought of whatever genre... It also came from my burning need to waste time on innane things. Yay!

A large mp3 collection can easily get out of hand. As your collection gets bigger it becomes harder to keep track of what you have and don't, and unless you start it right from the beginning you have a large task ahead of you in sorting them all. Certainly when you have 1503 mp3's in your collection!

A special note regarding this collection. You will notice that almost everything here is full albums or web downloads. While the mp3 format is a fantastic means of making your music available whereever you are it's not an excuse to steal. You'll notice there are no download links on any of the commercial music. I don't trade mp3's either. These files are legally mine and I don't want the RIAA humping my door down and taking my computer because someone couldn't pay $.79 through Yahoo! Music to get an mp3, so please don't ask.

I want it

Hopefully I will be releasing a version of the script soon that you can use on your own site. However keep in mind that in order for this to work at all your tags need to be pretty meticulous. I personally use the styling options outlined at MusicBrainz and as such the database works around that for such features as guest appearances.

Should you want to start working on your tags before the release I strongly recommend using MP3/Tag Studio by Magnus Brading. This is a fantastic program and the final script documentation will use it as an example.
