Last night was insane. We've been having high wind alerts all evening and around 2 AM it went into Dorothy territory. The windows started banging against each other and the power went out. Mind you, we have sliding glass windows. Jake got up to try and wedge stuff against the windows and I heard the upstairs people doing the same. This morning we woke up to High Wind warnings. A HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM PST FRIDAY. NORTH WINDS OF 35 TO 50 MPH WITH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 80 MPH WILL CONTINUE. I always wanted a nice pair of red shoes. I loathe the summer. Seriously... My normal pleasant personality My G-d... This weekend was so hot. We don't have any A/C so it was beyond horrible in the apartment. I finally realized that it doesn't matter how many fans are blowing when it's hot air. My friend in the Valley said it topped 115ยบ. Of course, she has air conditioning so she can eat hot death. :P Saturday Jake went off to see A Scanner Darkly. I was tempted to go just to get out but decided against it. By 2pm it was too hot to think. I just went into the bedroom and took a nap. By 4:30pm I was practically ready to kill someone I was so irritated. Our windows shut sideways, which makes buying an A/C even harder. Jake would have to build something to block the rest of the window. Sunday rolled around and it was even hotter. At 11:30am I looked at Jake and said, "We're going to the movies." We saw The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest again. I chose that one for two reasons. One: I've been wanting to see it a second time in the theatre. It's one of those movies you need to see on the big screen to fully appreciate the hard work they put into it. Two: It's 2 hours and 30 minutes in an air conditioned theater. It was heaven... It's so hot in the apartment right now I can't wait to get to work. I must have gone 'mad with the heat'. <-- Movie quote. Aren't I clever? :p

Posted by Diva on July 24, 2006 | Comments (2) Living in California has made me quite the woose. Last night I was sleeping when I heard some loud banging noises. My first thought was that someone was messing with the garbage cans. The room lit up and another loud boom hit. Thunder storm. No rain, just thunder and lightning. I went to the living room to check on the kittens. First storm for them. Then a really loud one hit. I said, "Fuck this shit" and jumped right back into bed. Jake had woken up to that one. We just listed to the storm for a bit, then drifted back to sleep. How odd that a grown person is transformed to a six year old when a little weather happens. Suddenly I was back in my old bedroom, with covers up to my ears just waiting for it to pass. When I'm up thunderstorms don't bother me as much. It's something about being in bed when it's happening that creeps me out. I remember having a big window as a child. It was the normal window with a triangle of glass above it. We had these tall trees out front that swayed in the winds and made ghoulish shadows with it's branches. One time the Santa Ana winds were really bad and the 'monsters' looked as if they were coming to get me. I Laid in my pink canape bed, covers up to my ears and watched every sway. Suddenly there was a loud *snap* and the monster flew across the room. This sent me into a fit of screams that sent my dad dashing into the room buck naked. I slept in their bed for a week after that. Even seeing the tree laying across the driveway wasn't any consolation. There were two more ghouls out there and I wasn't about to be eaten by them. You'd never think I'd grow up to love horror films like I do. It's such a refreshing change to hear the rain. The air is fresh and everything is green. Plus I don't have to wash my car. :P My friends always tease me about preferring the winter over summer, especially in California. But I was born here, so its not like I CHOSE this place for the weather. If I had a choice I would have lived in Seattle. I'd have to see what the summers were like. I loathe the heat. I'm miserable in it. So is anyone around me. The littlest victims are often overlooked. Animals that people took into their home as a part of their family are now without homes. I can't imagine losing one of my pets. Hopefully people will see their pets and be reunited. With all the death and destruction, this might be something positive to look forward to. Please check out Rescue for Ruffugees if you have a chance. They're trying to help the animals left behind after the hurricaine by finding them a place to stay. It's very cool.
