We're *trying* to still fix whatever keeps screwing up on the server. There are times people can't log into their blogs or post comments. Right now I can log in and post (duh). The comments are still giving 500 ISE (Internal Server Errors). Since there seems to be some confusion on what the difference is between an ENTRY and a COMMENT I am going to list it here: ENTRY: You are reading it right now. You sign into the Posting section and click New Entry. This is not a problem *crosses fingers* COMMENT: At the bottom of this ENTRY on the main page (what you are viewing now) you will see the word "COMMENTS (0)". The number "0" means no comments have been posted. Click on COMMENTS (0). This will take you to the COMMENT section. From there you add your name, email/website and any comment you would like. Once you click POST it is supposed to post the comment. Unfortunately people who try are getting a 500 ISE. Please let me know if you have any questions. *crosses fingers, toes and eyes that this clarifies everything* Yeah, so this weekend I spent in limbo. I waited for my tester domain to get the database copied over. When it was I tried the comments. So of course it kicked me right back to J00wish. *sigh* Now I need to go through and see what needs to be done to upgrade the damn thing. Then... I'll upgrade this blog. I figure I need to at least update the stupid thing before screaming anymore. considering the amount of time spent trying to figure the errors out I could have had a brand new hard drive installed and started from scratch. The thing is... I'm told it's not a hardware issue. While the 500 Internal Server Errors have stopped I am starting to get all sorts of errors when rebuilding the site. Plus... the comments still don't update. Whatever. I'll tackle the issues as time and sanity permits. Hopefully by this weekend. It's one of those annoying things that gnaws at you. Every time I start to type I just know it's not working right and no one has been able to give me a reason why. next step: Changing software. I am sooo not looking forward to that option. Blah. Okay, so apparently the server is 'correcting' itself whenever I post a trouble shooting ticket. they also said that the error is 'weird' and that it 'might correct itself'. Hopefully it will because I don't want to have to keep submitting tickets only to have the damn thing start working the minute I click POST. Maybe that's the key. the server gets nervous and corrects itself so it doesn't have to deal with anyone fucking around with it anymore. Whatever works... I finally changed hosting companies and moved servers this week. I remember the first time I changed hosts. I wanted to go to a dedicated server and my current hosting company was just too steep for what they had to offer. I was really disappointed because they were so nice. After searching forums and hosting review sites I found one company that always had great reviews. I went with them and was very happy. Then they were bought out. The stellar support I counted on changed to 'just okay'... and it went downhill from there. The old company answered tickets almost immediately (I think 30 seconds was the fastest). The new company once took two days to answer a ticket. It wasn't that big of a deal, but the time lapse was still pretty shocking. I outgrew my server and finally decided to move on. My new hosting company is EV1 Servers. I looked through hosting review sites and for the most part I've read positive comments. So far so good! The customer service rep was extremely helpful and nice. He worked with me to get the server I wanted and help me through the initial steps. The support was fast and courteous, and I really like the fact that I can actually talk to someone instead of waiting on an email. I was stuck when it came to setting up the server and transferring data. My best friend, Bane, usually helps me on the server but was stuck working every night. He found Platinum Server Management, who I recommend to ANYONE wanting to set up their server, make sure it's secure or needing someone to monitor their server. I emailed them on Sunday not expecting much to happen. By late afternoon I had received five emails listing what they had done and updating me on what was still needed. I was amazed. I'm not sure if I want to continue to pay them monthly, but it was worth a one month fee. Now the icky part. Telling my old hosting company to shut my account. I sent them a ticket Saturday at 12:30PM and got a curt reply 24 hours later stating that it will be dealt with during normal business hours. I'm crossing my fingers they don't come up with some weird fee to hit me up for. The last month (or two) have been a pain in the ass. Between me trying to eat normal again (and failing), updating NoChickTrix (fucking that up), updating the gallery (see: NCT) and finding a new server (Hurrah! I found one!) I have been disinterested in doing anything else. Some of it is finally falling into place (thanks to Bane), so I will be back to enjoying my online experience soon. My post operative healing has been an eye opening experience to say the least. The other night I tried eating chicken strips from a grocery store deli and ended up ripping something inside and coughing up blood. Yeah, that's attractive. Supposedly I should be eating normally by the third month. Thanksgiving should be interesting. Updating the forum on NoChickTrix has been another exercise in patience. I made TWO test forums and had Bane walking me through the problem hacks only to fuck up the real board. We're not even going to discuss me accidentally putting the upgrade to NoChickTrix and Bane having to spend three hours unfucking that up. When it came down to the live update I managed to miss an error that was on the test forums, do something to the front page that made it wonky and erase the log in section. Yeah, that was just a few of the errors. It's still not completely fixed, but whatever. The galleries were expected to go down with the upgrade. What I *didn't* expect was for it not to upgrade correctly. As of now I still have two galleries that don't work and no idea as to how to fix them. Go me! The server issue has been one that's been around for a while. Our server sucks. It's slow. It's old. Our current hosting company is too expensive for me to upgrade so we started looking around. More on that baby later. I'm sorry I haven't been updating the journal and I'm sorry I haven't been talking to a lot of my dear friends. I miss you all so much and promise to get back to normal once this is all over with. Hopefully this weekend will be the magic number for finalizing everything and I can sit back and breathe.... Lately I've been getting a ton of spam from Seoul. I don't get it. They post some random quote taken from a sports page and then link some porn site. The thing is... they go through the archives and post on old rants. If you're going to spam a site, why post where hardly anyone looks? Most webmasters get emails whenever a comment is placed so it's a matter of minutes or an hour before it's removed. All that cutting/pasting/linking for nothing. Well... except for the annoyed person who has to delete it. I don't want to moderate my comments. That's way more work on me than I have to offer. Banning IPs is another option. I hate the idea of banning a country over one (or a few) scumbag(s) who can't seem to get a real job. Then there's the 'I don't think so' option of emailing the site. Riiiiight. I just got my spam below 50 a day. I'm not about to offer a working email to them. It's like saying, "Here. A gift to you my new friend. Spam me to hell. I <3 U. Thxkbai!!!11!1!" Bane surprised me this morning by updating my Movable Type. It may look the same on the outside but admin section looks completely different. My comments finally work without that random filtering, my spam block is better and I got rid of all that track back crap. Seriously, I ONLY had spam on there. *sigh* It's those people who take the fun out of blogging. Thank you, Bane!!!!

Posted by Diva on October 28, 2005 | Comments (3) When I first posted about my Videos section I was so excited about all of the music videos I could share. Less than a month later I was told that they weren't working. I went to the site and sure enough, they had shut off their videos. I hate when someone talks about offering a great service then cuts you off at the knees. Aparently they are slowly putting some back on. For now I have listed the ones not working as "offline". Hopefully they'll be up and working soon. What really pisses me off is that I put a lot of work into setting those pages up, and now it's basically like my Music section... but not as cool. If anyone finds a similar service click on the contact page and shoot me off a message. KTHXBAI!!!1111 Yes, I am a dork. After Thank you,Bane! Edit: Aparently spammers (die fuckers) seem to like this one entry to post on (which I promptly delete) so I'm closing comments. *shrugs* You guys are SUCH idiots. I figured that I would give this some more content to see what the fuck it would look like once I actually start using it. The chick on the side rocks, even if she does have on a cross. :p I love the colors, so if all goes well I should be a happy camper soon. Thank you, Bane! This is just to check out what the hell this looks like. Nothing to see here... move along! |
