I usually loathe chain letters, but I love the answer and question kinds. Not to send, just to do. Here's my response to Jules' email: 1. What time did you get up this morning? 4:58 am (stupid needy cat) It's been a while since I've met anyone in person that I've chatted to online. That's about to change. My goal has always been to meet people online and make new friends. To me that was as natural as joining a club or going to a party. Go for the conversation, stay for the people you click with. If you're lucky you walk away with some interesting discussions and some possible new friends. But online has always been taboo when it came down to actually meeting people. You had your online friends and your IRL (in real life) ones. I remember getting into a big debate with someone over the idea of an online community and stood my ground that it was possible. The key to getting the most out of the online experience is to be sure of what you want. That means understanding what you are getting involved in. There are many places to chat, NoChickTrix included, where you can meet people and have an enjoyable time. There are also many places where most of the people you come in contact with are looking for a fight. The idea is to know when you are somewhere you can be yourself, and know when to shut up and stick to the topics at hand. I've seen too many people ripped apart for being too gullable, too nice or too emotional. There are a lot of cruel people on the web. I've seen the worst personality traits come out when mocking someone's death or misfortune. If it weren't for my little spot on the web I seriously doubt I'd still be online. This summer I am going to meet two couples I've chatted with online. The first couple is a woman and her boyfriend that I met from Flickr/SU. For the most part we've just commented on various pictures, so it should be interesting to meet her in person. They seem like a great couple. The second is a long time online friend that I met on NoChickTrix. She's hopefully moving out to California in July with her boyfriend, a wonderful guy I also adore, and cannot wait to hear the official news. It will be nice to have someone to hang with and chat about everything and nothing. Right now most of my closer friends are online. As much as I enjoy our IM chats it's nice just to be able to grab some coffee and just sit face to face. My next goal is to travel and see friends where they live. I can finally start to travel with Jake... and there's no house cleaning involved on my part. Scooooore!
Okay, so I'm starting to play Puzzle Pirates. It's fun so far. You make your own pirate up, play puzzles for money and move up on the ranks. I haven't gone on any pillaging yet. Yeppers... I'm a chicken. :p Anyone close to me knows my obsession with cyberculture and memes. One of my favorites was the 100 Things About Me. I did my own 100 Things a while back. At first it was fun. Towards the end it was a bit tedious. When it was over I was kinda sad. It was a way to list personal bits about me and with those bits came memories. A mini walk through my life as it were. I clicked on my page to see what I had written and decided to update a bit. I'm still not happy with how I phrased it, so there is more work to be done. I clicked the link to the original 100 Things page and was surprised to see it was gone. It's not that I expect web pages to live on forever... but this one was something I would have hoped to stay up a while longer. It's funny how you can learn more about a person in one list than 100 posts. I hope the 100 Things posts live on in spirit. There's always new people to the web and with them comes new experiences. PS: I was writing keywords and wrote 100-thongs. Imagine all the disappointed people who would have come across this page on a search. HAH! The Best Stuff in the World has really updated their site. I LOVE the new look. Check out their new ditty:

Posted by Diva on August 12, 2006 | Comments (0) Imeem has a new addition to it's perks. The good news is that you can comment and rate pictures and videos that you can upload to their site. The (semi) bad news is that it's only available on the website right now. It should be available via the program next update. It's nice to be able to communicate more with the fellow Imeemers. I've been really happy with this social networking. I've met some great people (yes you, Dustin) who in turn have met some of my great friends. I'm also estatic that I can finally see my Flickr pictures on my profile. Yay! Now if they can only move those suckers to the top! I've been tagged! Yay! 5s: 2) 5 Things You Can Do 3) 5 Things That Scare You 4) 5 Things You Love 5) 5 Things You Hate 6) 5 Random Facts About You 7) 5 Things You Want To Do Before You Die Now tag 5 others! :) Bane knows what a meme whore I am and tagged me on this Four Things page. There was only one thing to do.... make my OWN Four Things page. MUHAHAHA. Seriously, I love this shit. I spent over twenty minutes trying to find the origin of this meme and then gave up. Oh well, I'm just doing my job to keep this baby alive. *smiles*

Posted by Diva on February 02, 2006 | Comments (0) I was surfing through one of my daily reads, Perez Hilton, and found a post on Imeem. I signed up and immediately was impressed by it's features. You can blog on it or link to your blog, join communities, share your Flickr photos, share files, leave notes for friends and instant message. There's a lot more, and I am still testing things out. It also felt great to be able to show my friend Bane something new, which is a rarity. Of course once I did he found all the really cool stuff and then invited everyone and stole my thunder. :/
Lately I've been playing around with different geeky things on the web. When Bane first told me about Del.icio.us I thumbed my nose to it. I thought it was just double work for my bookmarks. Then one day I decided to reorginize my bookmarks. Talk about a nightmare. I am a total packrat and saving links is no exception. I had over 1600 links to go through, and over half of them ended up being dead links. Del.icio.us started looking real good to me about a third of the way through. Instead of searching through folder after folder to guess where I put a link I am able to click on my Del.icio.us page and search through terms. For instance: When I bookmarked iLL WiLL PreSS I used the terms "flash funny humor animation". That way I can find it by selecting anyone of those or a combination. It also shows how many other people linked that site. I have only linked about 410 of my bookmarks. Some of the ones I left off are just silly sites I'll probably go through and delete the next time I get a wild hair up my ass. Oh yeah, and I left off some of my porn links. I'm selfish. Deal with it. :P |
