I took a few days off to celebrate my birthday and take a breather from work. It was like heaven. My birthday started off a bit rocky. I needed a haircut badly so I went to my hairdresser in the early afternoon. I felt guilty about using 'the cheap stuff' to try and lighten my hair a few weeks back and apologized to her. Yeah, I'm a total pussy. She said it looked fine and offered to highlight it. As you recall I wasn't too hip on the highlighting from before. It looks great when it's down... but like the bride of Frankenstein when I pull my hair back. Guess which way I wear my hair 90% of the time. Yeppers... So anyway, I said okay because I was stupid and she did my hair. The cut looks fabulous. The highlights? I think I'm going to need therapy. I'm not one to wear my hair down. All that flipping back and tucking makes me feel socialitish. I dunno.
The evening rocked my socks off. Cat and Mark showed up with TWO cakes (vanilla for my boring ass and chocolate to mix things up). We hopped in the dirty Rav4 and headed over to Houstons. Jake called beforehand and they said the earliest reservation was 9pm. He called at 5pm. We did it just in case and walked in to a 20 minute wait. Awesome... Two glasses of wine later I was feeling no pain and we enjoyed a great dinner. Once we arrived home I changed into something a little more comfortable (sweats... how romantic) and they brought out the cake. It was awesome. All sorts of awesome. On Sunday I drove Cat and Jake up the wall trying to find new outfits. People think I'm joking when I give them the 'I HATE shopping and am miserable to be with' warning. Now they know... Monday I took the car in to get the damn radio replaced (thank G-d for warranties) and have it serviced. Tuesday... Tuesday I was a total bum. I can't tell you the rest of my weekend just yet... but lets just say I was really happy with how it turned out.
I finally posted the photographs I took while at the Renaissance Fair on my birthday weekend on my Flickr account. This year the maiden VS wench radio was surprisingly high. Very few wenches (IE: women with boobs practically falling out of their tops) were waltzing around. A few older wenches were about (ew) and from the looks of it their boobs could have been chin rests. Floppiness is NOT attractive!
The Bold and Stupid Guys show was hilarious, as were the conversations of random people. One man walked around with a bunch of rope and started impromptu rope pulling contests. Jake jumped into one and their side won. There was also a few fairies (or pixies) that tried to cause havoc on unsuspecting people. One would play dead while the other two held rope across the walkway. We walked in and Jake was skeptic. He assumed it would be something boring that you 'had to be into' to fully enjoy. Within ten minutes he was talking about coming back and dressing in costume. *smiles* The costumes were fantastic (as usual) and the faire was very large. If you haven't been to one, it's a memory you won't forget.

I just realized I was wearing purple in this picture and decided to do a hail Mary post before Thursday was over. Don't I looke like such the little operator? I took this yesterday while getting ready for my birthday/mini vacation. Can you tell I was in a good mood or what? My boss was a no show on that day, which was fine by me. It was nice not to have any extra stress. Next week will be hell but it was worth it to just get away.
Today was my birthday. I turned the big 4-0. I spent it relaxing and enjoying the well wishes of friends. I got calls from people I didn't expect to hear from and MIA wishes from people I thought would. I guess it evened out. Jake bought me 18 long stem roses, which were mooshed by the delivery people, but still a wonderful gift. Later on he took me to our favorite restaurant, Houstons, where we dined on prime rib and artichoke and spinach dip. Yum! Later on we had some cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory that sent me into a sugar rush from hell. It was worth it. We tried taking some photos together at the restaurant but either kept laughing, talking or making odd faces. All in all it was a good day. Tomorrow I continue my mini vacation by sleeping in, lounging around and planning our day trip to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire on Saturday. I can't wait! Friday night JakeD decided to replace my old DVD player with the DVD burner he bought me for my birthday. I don't know what I need the burner for, but I figured I'd ask for it just in case something popped up. He put it in without a glitch and then pressed the power button. Nothing happened. He pressed it again. Zilch. He looked over at me playing on his computer with an 'oh shit' expression. After messing with it for over an hour I called it in. My computer was DOA at 8:15PM. I let out the usual "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" before going into despair. I did the only rational thing a person with a boyfriend, DVDs, a television (to watch them on) and music to listen to would do: I went to bed. The next morning we met our friends for breakfast and then made a B-Line to Best Buy's Geek Squad. I will never make fun of them again. Don, the guy who helped us, was really nice. After filling out the paperwork and telling me what they'd do I was turning away when he said, "We'll call you in a few days". I almost had a heart attack. "A fe... Fe... huh? DAYS?!" We started the rapid apologies about not asking/telling the time frame before filling everything out and he asked me to hold on. After going into the back he returned saying they could do a quick check of the power supply (which is what I thought it was) and let me know. Relieved I left. He called me within twenty minutes to say it was the power supply. I also had a bad CPU fan. He said they didn't have the kind I had on it and to just 'put a regular fan in front of the computer' in the meantime. I called :Bane: who balked and said any kind would do. I redialed Best Buy and Don said they'd do it. By 3PM Saturday I was back online. I know there is going to be a time when I need to disconnect from my computer addiction... but I want it to be on MY terms. Perhaps a trial separation, then custody battle followed by great make-up se... errr... nevermind. The rest of my birthday was pretty low key. I spent the day relaxing and then met Jake for a great dinner at our favorite restaurant, Houstons. This year I cleaned up in the cool presents department. Jake got me more memory for my phone (I've been wanting this), a DVD burner (my current DVD player sticks and takes no less then 7 pushes to make it pop out), the King Kong DVD (YES!) and the Mel Brooks DVD Collection. Guess what I'll be doing this weekend. *grins* It's my birthday today! I woke up to the phone ringing. after struggling to get up the answering machine beat me to it. My coworker starts off by saying, "Happy birthday, Odessa!" I thought that was so sweet until she continued, "We need the instructions on how to do a report. Please call us." WTF!?! I stumbled to the kitchen, turned on the coffee and sat down to my desk. I looked at Trixi and said, "Aren't you going to wish me a happy birthday meow?" She promptly coughed up a hairball. I kid you not. Then I had to make a mad dash to clean it up before Dorian got to it. Ugh. I can't wait to see what else is in store for me today. Thirty years ago today a pasty white child was born into this world. As I look at the latest pictures of him I notice not much as changed. Bald and white as ever. :D Bane has been my best friend and savior too many times to count and I trust him with everything. I hope you have a great day, Bane... and I will kill UPS if my present doesnt arrive there on Tuesday. *hugs* I don't want to hear ANY whining, bitching, moaning or fussing today. I just want to relax, play my game for a bit and then enjoy a nice dinner with Jake at Houstons *drool*. Here's the flowers I woke up to this morning:
Our power went out today. It went off... then on. Then off.. then on... Then stayed off for about 2 hours. It was looking like we would go home, too. It was a nice break from the usual work, but I would love to get my work done so that when I come back from my 4 day vacation it wont all be due at once. Did I mention I am taking four days off FOR MY BIRTHDAY? All presents and cards welcome. =D Meanwhile I am planning out my weekend already. JakeD: Do you want to have margaritas this weekend? |
