It's an Echo

Today is an Administrative Holiday. That means everyone else gets the day off and WE have to work. The only bright side is that my boss is taking today and Monday off for her birthday. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself, but it won't be working. She said we could 'wear jammies and run around' as long as the phones were answered. I swear that woman just hit senility or had a liquid lunch. Either way that means we're going to have our own mini party, eat junk food all day and end up sick by the end of it. My second (or third) childhood all crammed into one day. Now all we need is naptime and for someone to get their bra stolen and thrown in the freezer.

Blue Team Slow! Blue Team Slow!

Oh my fucking G-d. Was yesterday 'let's drive the Red Rav4 driver bat shit day'? I left early to go to my doctor's appointment and managed to get behind every slow person driving in Los Angeles ALL the way to the office. I'd get behind a car and they would automatically start to crawl up the road. I'd swerve into the next lane... same shit. Within a mile I was edging up the road surrounded by a bunch of slow driving people who KNEW I wanted to pass. I tried the 'be cool and pretend it doesn't bother me' approach when the glanced over but my white knuckles told a different story. I could have landed planes with those babies. I was two blocks away from my turn when a HUGE truck pulled in front of me and went about two miles per hour. I swear to G-d I was hyperventilating by the time my street came up. There's no such thing as taking a drive in LA. It's called 'testing your willpower'.

That Was Fun!

This weekend was a blast. We spent ALL day hanging out with Audie and chatting. I chose The Cheesecake Factory for it's good food and nice atmosphere. I didn't factor in the parking though. $20 bucks later we were finally allowed to leave. Oy.

It was nice to finally meet some of the people we've been chatting with online. I've only met a handful so far (which includes :jake: ) so I am hoping this is the start of meeting more NCTers. The biggest problem is trying to get to a spot where we can meet. Most of my friends are out of state or the country. A day trip to New York is out of the question, so I guess we'll have to wait a while before seeing others.

My only disappointment was that the waiter took the pictures and mine came out all blurry. Audie will just have to come out again to take more!

The Long Haul

:jake: and I had a less than enjoyable weekend. We got into an argument over the usual stuff and I went to bed. That was Friday at 5:30pm. I woke up on Saturday still feeling the same and decided it was time to have a serious heart to heart. It started out with me asking him to look for an apartment and ended with him making (the same) promises to show he was serious about our relationship. School full time, savings for himself and paying me back for the car. We'll see. Needless to say, I haven't been in a blogging, chatting or just cheery mood. At the fact that we're still being sued for the car and our apartment is being held hostage by the handyman and I cannot WAIT for this to pass. Oh, and next month I turn forty. Fuck!

Car Crash Woes Cont...

Way back in 2003 JakeD got into a car accident in my new car. He tried making a left turn in front of some chick speeding down the road in her brand spanking new BMW. For three years we've been trying to put the case behind us, but it hasn't been easy. The woman ended up being a nut case that wouldn't sign anything. At one point my car insurance had to hire a private detective to make sure she was getting the mail. I finally signed off on the thing so her insurance could get paid. When November passed we breathed a sigh of relief. The case was officially closed.

February 26th we get a call from some guy stating he wants to serve us. Apparently the bitch filed a suit on November 22nd (the day before it expired) and they were just getting around to giving us the papers. You can imagine how thrilled I was to hear this. I called the insurance company, who had to re-open the case and assign yet another adjuster. We were back at step one. Yesterday I called the insurance people after being notified of a court date in which no one showed. I panicked. They assured me we didn't have to. Apparently her attorney is similar and has yet to even tell them what she's suing for. So now it's in their hands and we just have to sit and wait. The ironic thing is this twit lives blocks from us. I have yet to venture out that way, but I can tell you it is tempting. If she starts claiming permanent injuries you bet your bottom dollar I'll be in front of her house with a camera in hand. All the people in LA... and he has to hit a psycho-chick.

Two Floors

Two floors of hell. Two floors of me fighting the urge to rip the gum out of this woman's mouth and beat her with my coffee mug. Two floors of snapping, popping and chewing like a cow. I thought for sure that I could make it. It was easy as pie. Focus on the "L" and dive when the doors opened. The elevator 'dinged' to alert us of our floor and I yelled out "GAH!" I almost made it. She glared at me, did a final snap and walked out. Oh sure, as if I was the rude one.

When I was a child I snapped my gum in front of my dad. I was six and we were in the middle of Disneyland. I snapped it once and he stopped. "Do that again and you're wearing it on your nose." A few steps farther I snapped it again. "Put it on." I ended up wearing that pink blob of Hubba Bubba on my nose for the rest of the day. When it fell off he made me put it back on. I NEVER snapped my gum again. Maybe I should have forced her to wear it. Staple it in place even. Yeah...

Purple Thursday!

Every Thursday is Purple-Thursday at my work. You have to wear something purple. It was started by one of my coworkers who loves purple and caught on. I love it because no matter how frustrated the day is when I realize I'm wearing purple I know tomorrow will be Friday. Today this will be my purple for the blog.

Way To Go...

JakeD is still getting over walking pneumonia and I am (hopefully) getting over this fucking cold soon. We ventured out to the Toyota dealership this weekend for an oil change and hung out while it was being done. We joked around with one of the workers there (who was black). He was really nice and tried pushing the mechanics who were working on our car to finish faster. An older man arrived to pick up his car wearing a UCLA teeshirt. Even though the sleeves weren't that long he tried rolling them over to give some sort of half assed muscle shirt look. Plus, it showed his tats. The Toyota worker greeted the man and mentioned his UCLA shirt. The guy responded with, "Yeah! You probably went to the University of South Central, right?" The only sounds were jaws dropping on the ground. I told JakeD to cover his UCLA jersey that he was wearing as I stared at the man in utter disbelief. The Toyota guy politely said no and the guy's car arrived. POS beat up blue car. Fitting...

The ignorance of people never ceases to amaze me. They scream to the heavens about racial profiling in the police force, yet our society is one of it's biggest offenders. I'd be lying if I said I never did it. But the difference is acknowledging it and realizing that it's wrong.

Super Duper Support

Wow! That was.... harsh. The creepy IT chick got her ass handed to her yesterday. As annoying as she is this was still a bit much. I can't say she didn't have it coming. Her boss came by to find out how she was doing on a major report that was due in one day. The IT chick's response: "I downloaded a patch from Microsoft's website." The woman blew her top. "What!?!?! That's all you've done in a day and a half!?!?! We pay you 85 THOUSAND dollars a year for super duper support and all you've done is download a patch!?!?!" At that point I grabbed my keys and went for a walk. I don't care if she was watching midget porn, you don't publicly tear someone a new asshole. That's what offices are for. Besides, who wants to hear that a person in management actually uses the term 'super duper'?
