Ho Ho Fuck Off (December 15, 2006)

I survived another year without decking the Santa in the halls. That's a Christmas song, isn't it? Anyway, this year I conveniently had to pee when he made the rounds to our area. I stopped by one of the IT guys and we talked about his behavior last year. The IT guy chimed in, "Let him try doing that to my Muslim ass." Yay for another person who understands! While we were chatting they came up to ask him to pose with Santa with his group. His answer: "Oh hell no." I would love for this country to go Jewish for a year. Or any other non Christian religion. Imagine ONLY celebrating someone else's holidays officially. The food you shop for, the days you take off... all based on their religious beliefs. That's one 'Christmas present' I'd happily accept with baby in a manger wrapping and a Santa card to boot.

While I understand a lot of what you're saying, Santa Claus has nothing to do with the "Christian" part of Christmas... :/

I keep saying -- they need to put their religious holiday back in the season it belongs and just let Santa and the secularists keep the other.

I agree with Jules, you should relax. Christmas, Haloween, Easter - all just proxies for the astronomical occurrences of the four seasons.

What better excuses to party? "Oh, the Earth is farthest from the sun!", "Hooray, the earth is closest to the sun!", "Yippee, the earth is half way in-between!"

I personally make an effort to celebrate these events - and unlike the religious holidays, the reason for these celebrations can be observed by astronomers.

So rather than force people to be Jewish with holidays that are every bit as arbitrary as any other religion, let's just delight in the fact that the major holidays in the US have been so commercialized that anyone without a stick up their ass can happily enjoy them.

Ever try decorating a conifer with Hanukkah symbols and a Star of David on the top? Not only would it be really cool looking with little Israili flags everywhere and such, but it's sure to piss-off those overbearing workplace Christians.

Last year I had a sign that said JEWISH with an arrow pointing down. I disagree. As far as most Christians are concerned these ARE Christian holidays. I wasn't brought up believing in Santa and find it sad that people would lie to their children to make them behave. The Easter Bunny is a symbol to Christians, even if it's irrational. I don't understand why people think I should join in if I don't want to. Just to be a team player? There should be a point where my personal beliefs count.
