The Holocaust Timeline

"In the course of my life I have very often been a prophet, and have usually been ridiculed for it. During the time of my struggle for power it was in the first instance only the Jewish race that received my prophecies with laughter when I said that I would one day take over the leadership of the State, and with it that of the whole nation, and that I would then among other things settle the Jewish problem. Their laughter was uproarious, but I think that for some time now they have been laughing on the other side of their face. Today I will once more be a prophet: if the international Jewish financiers in and outside Europe should succeed in plunging the nations once more into a world war, then the result will not be the Bolshevizing of the earth, and thus the victory of Jewry, but the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe!"

Adolf Hitler - January 30, 1939

I grew up learning about the Holocaust. The pictures of the horrors that happened will haunt me forever. While Jews were the primary target there were many others who suffered the same fate. My father said that I am shown these horrors so that we remember and it does not happen again (to anyone). Sadly enough it has happened over and over. I wonder if we will ever learn from the mistakes of hatred unchecked.

You don't have to be Jewish to learn from this lesson... just human. Take a moment and look at the Holocaust Timeline. Take care when calling someone 'the enemy' until you understand the reasons behind it.

A Drive Through Heaven

Beautiful Ventura County

Last Sunday Jake and I took a day trip that took us through Kanan Road and onto PCH. It was a beautiful day for a drive and a great photo op. After half a dozen drive by shots we decided to stop at some scenic view points. What's frustrating is that the pictures really don't do justice to how beautiful it was. Imagine green hills as far as the eye could see and hardly a soul around except for the occasional car flying by. After living there for so many years I could finally appreciate how lucky I was. Now all we see around us are buildings and signs. The only wildlife around is the ferile cats and our idiotic neighbor. Need to see something green? We're lucky to have neighbors who have some beautiful lawns, but it's nothing like standing in the midst of nature. If we're REALLY lucky the outline of a mountain is seen in the distance... hidden by a thick layer of smog. *sigh*

Hell Week

This week is going to be hell, hence the sporadic updates. We both have early shifts and are trying to get ready for the week off. I have to pick up a coworker that sprained her ankle and can't walk from the bus stop to work (a good distance) and have to sort through all the little tasks my boss gave me. I came in on Monday to a two-page list of things to do. Some of them are my daily tasks that I've been doing the whole time. When she called (first day on her vacation) I mentioned the list and she laughed, saying it was just a reminder. I commented, "Yeah, because you know I turn into a complete moron when you're not here." She took that well. :p

Kitten Stories

I decided to start yet ANOTHER blog. This time it's about the cats. I realize there a lot of people who aren't cat fanciers or even fond of animals, so I am trying to spare them from those types of posts. It's called Will Blog 4 Mice. I won't be doing daily posts but I will update regularly. :D Pretty soon I'm going to have a blog for work, a blog for news, a blog about my boyfriend and a PMS blog. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Closeup of Noelle

Closeup of Noelle

My dear friend and coworker took a nasty spill at work yesterday. She had just put down some food for people to eat in an empty cupible and turned to walk out. At the last minute she noticed a drawer was ajar and tried to step over it only to realize a small trashcan was beyond that. She spun around and fell hard on her hip, fracturing it. She had surgery on it last night, and is feeling better.

I spent yestrday trying to call her husband, doctor and set things up. Unfortunately they brought her to the closest hospital, which wasn't UCLA. I am not happy about that. I'd rather she go to a place where I knew people instead of some rinky dink place that has a third of the capacity. After threatening to cut the balls off of the doctor if he screwed up I made my way home to pick up the freshly neutered/spayed kittens.

She invited Jake and I to her house for Christmas, so I offered to have Jake cook for her there instead. I just can't wait for her to be home so she can feel better. At least she has a steady stream of callers to drive her up the wall. *smiles*

Kick Ass Weekend

:jake: and I had a great weekend. We lounged around on Saturday and then went to my boss' house on Sunday for a party. I arrived to a house full of family and no other UCLA people. It made me feel really good. She introduced me as someone she works WITH instead of someone who works FOR her. Everyone was very kind. Jake and I spent most of the time talking to her uncle, who is an absolute doll. It was really nice to see her in a different atmosphere. She looked very happy.

We decided to take the scenic route home and drive through Kanan Road over to PCH. At one point we stopped to take pictures (which will be posted soon). The day was clear and a light breeze that made it heaven. The beach was almost empty which made it even more beautiful to drive through. I honestly didn't want the day to end. *smiles*

Cha-Ching, Baby!

I finally finished the huge report that was due and readied myself for the big showdown: Telling my boss if I don't get a raise then I don't want the position. After asking about the increase she gave me the news: 10% increase in pay. Hot damn! This chica is going shopping! After I pay off a couple of bills, that is. Still, it's incentive enough for me to keep doing this job for the moment. Feel free to bookmark this rant and send it to me when I come to my senses and wonder why I ever stayed... :p

Bow When You See Me

The reclassification was approved so I will be starting in my new position on December 12th. I am waiting to finish the huge report before asking about the raise. When I walked into work yesterday I expected the usual cold shoulder from my boss. What I got was a VERY cheerful, "Odessa! Welcome back!" I stared at her for a moment, waiting for her to start in on me for being sick. When that didn't happen I said, "Wow. I expected you to throw a shoe at my head or something." She ignored me and continued to be cheerful. Later on she asked what Jake and I were doing on Sunday and if we would like to go to a party at her house. I felt two emotions at once. First I felt like I was finally going to sit at the big peoples' table, then dirty for wanting to. It's moving over from Us VS Them mindset into the Them VS Us. Now I know why my boss had reservations. It's a huge change. You can't be chatty with the people you're going to supervise. Don't get me wrong, I have no intentions of donning leather and becoming a dominatrix (sorry, Pos). But these guys are a tough group and always look for an angle to work against you with. I learned from the supervisor who's leaving that being nice doesn't cut it. They were so hell bent on being hard asses that they didn't see how much she fought for them. They're going to when she leaves, that's for sure. *cracks knuckles* ... ew.

So Much For Being in Good Graces

I called in sick again and my boss was pissed. There was a huge report due today that wasn't finished. I felt bad until she started in with 'I gave you extra time' shit. The two weeks prior were taken up by Thanksgiving and her constant little tasks. Everything was priority and even when I told her that I needed to work on the Month End reports she stacked more shit on my plate. I was waiting for the AAs to add the missing information so I could complete that report. When I gave the sheets to their supervisor I got 'they don't have time to do this' and she handed them back. Fine. I went to my boss and asked what I should do and she took the sheets, saying they had to make time since it was information they left out. Lovely... Away went my report and that's the last I heard if it. When I mentioned it to the boss today her response was, "Well I guess I gave it to them then!" She was one step from yelling. I finally said, "Look. I've been sick all last week and came in to do the reports. Now the hives are bad and I can't wear clothes. You know I'd come in if I could. I did last week." After that she said "I know" a couple of times and then started complaining about having to do the reports herself. I offered for her to send them to me so I can do them from home but she ignored me and hung up. I am sooo not looking forward to tomorrow. I have to go in, but I dont want to hear the flack. I just need to keep repeating, 'You gave me twice the work on top of the other added tasks not counting my own and expected me to do it in half the time." If that doesn't work I'm going to start looking for a job pronto. This is bullshit.

They're Home!

They're Home!
Originally uploaded by j00wish.
Bernadine delivered Dorian and Phoebe last night. Yay! Almost all the pictures looked like shit because I was so excited. When Bernadine opened the cage they took off running and checking out the place. I thought for sure they'd be nervous, but they were more relaxed than we were. Phoebe *pointed out* several spots that need to be kitten proofed within 5 minutes. Jake and I did double time trying to catch the little buggers as they romped and played. Phoebe went behind the couch and decided it was time to play hide and seek. Unfortunately Trixi was there hiding from all the comotion. She hissed at Phoebe, who thought it was a game. Luckily that's all that happened.

We kept them in the bathroom at night so they could get used to the new home slowly. When we brought them out today they went wild. Jake and I sat there and watched them run and jumped all over the place. Phoebe is a pro at sneak attacks and has already claimed the top area of the cat furniture. Trixi watched them from under my desk, hissing at them when they ran up to her. They didn't seem to mind her too much, which was pretty funny. I think that will stop her from hissing faster than anything. It's no fun hissing if no one reacts. :)

After giving Trixi a peace offering of chicken we watched a movie on the couch with the little ones hopping in our laps. I felt bad for Trixi, but I know she'll be right up there with them soon enough. Bernadine called to check up on the little ones and I couldn't thank her enough for saving their lives and giving them to us. They're both complete charmers who love to snuggle and sleep on our laps. Phoebe uses my chest as a napping place, which I adore. I knew having large breasts would come in handy some day.
